AWACS: Radio DACS
Radio DACS
The Radio DACS processing node features interface to real radio equipment, the Display & Debrief station, and a single operator station.
The operator station (shown far left) is identical to the other 36 operator stations with audio (green) and digital control (orange) lines interfacing the host computer, operator/observer equipment and the DACS. As shown, it shares the TDM (Time Division Multiplexed) ring with the Display & Debrief station.
The connection of the entire network's audio and control data to real radio equipment is handled by this single processing node. It is equiped with two DSP-based Waveform Synthesizers and two Digital Input/Output cards (represented by green and orange boxes, respectively) to pass audio & control data between the real radios and the simulated communications environment.
Unlike the Operator DACS processing node, the Radio DACS contains two different types of digital signal processing hardware: the TDM card teamed with Remote Interface Units & the two High-Performance Waveform Synthesizers.
