September 14, 1998 – ASTi recently shipped its first low-cost Digital Intercom system to Ft. Rucker, AL. The Digital Intercom System is a reconfigurable, Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) intercom product offering simple expandability and minimal software development cost.

Enhanced features of the Digital Intercom System allow the user to modify an initialization file customizing the system's communications matrix, volume settings, push-to-talk capability and other functions. After the initial modification session, the Digital Intercom System will automatically load the intercom configuration upon power-up. If required, multiple configuration files can be developed for use with different intercom environments. Loading a different intercom configuration is as easy as typing a single command line or script command.

No host computer or operator interface is required, but can be easily accommodated. The Digital Intercom System employs ASTi's TDM/RIU (Time Division Multiplexed/Remote Interface Unit) architecture, allowing greater physical separation of intercom stations than previously available. Multiple Digital Intercom processing nodes can be networked together over a standard ethernet to result in an extensive intercom environment for several hundred operators.
