Ft. Wainwright Synapse Installation
August 10, 2004U.S. Army Alaska (USARAK) recently integrated a large ASTi Synapse communications system into their Mission Support Training Facility (MSTF) at Ft. Wainwright. The ASTi system provides warfighters training at the MSTF with critical voice communications capabilities by integrating various live and virtual communications networks.
The system provides the Army with the capability to route voice traffic between live radios operating in the maneuver field and soldiers located at ASTi virtual radio workstations in the MSTF. The ASTi system comprises a series of ASTi Synapse Radio-IP bridges and Synapse Workstations connected to a IP network.
The aggregate system provides the capability to link as many as 12 live SINCGARS radio channels to virtual network channels for intercommunication with 64 battlestaff operators, manning Synapse Workstation positions. Additional virtual network channels are available for battlestaff point-point or workgroup communications. More links can be established with Synapse nodes connected to the wide network.
The ASTi system can also distribute digitized, time-stamped live and virtual voice traffic to network packet logging devices, for after-action-review (AAR).
ASTi provided a complete customer support package to Ft. Wainwright, including: onsite installation and testing services, onsite training courses for system administrators and battlestaff instructors, and a support contract for ongoing phone and email assistance.
ASTi previously provided a complete live-virtual Synapse communications system to the MSFT at Ft Lewis, WA.
MSTFs have the capability to integrate live, virtual and constructive elements to provide the Army's Interim Brigade Combat Teams (IBCT) with state-of-the-art training, mission planning and mission rehearsals.
