Marine UH-1N WST Upgrade
UH-1N Huey
March 2, 2006 – ASTi recently delivered a Digital Audio Communications System (DACS) to Veraxx Engineering Corporation for use in a UH-1N Weapons System Trainer (WST) upgrade, conducted at HMT-303, MCB Camp Pendleton, CA. Under the upgrade program, Veraxx provided a rehost and upgrades to the IOS computer, and aural cue / inter-communications (ICS) systems. The aural cue and ICS upgrade consists of the replacement of a vintage ASTi Proline DACS dating from early 1993, which had been operational for 13 years.
Veraxx has relied on ASTi communications and aural cue solutions since 2000. Charlie Smith, president of Veraxx, stated,
“The DACS was chosen for this upgrade due to its ease of upgrade from the earlier system and its proven voice networking performance.”
Key ASTi system features include:
  • Sets of simulated radios for aircraft crew and instructors. Radios simulate realistic communications locally and between remote simulator sites, across military data networks.
  • Multiple intercom channels for aircraft crew, instructors, off-board personnel
  • A complete suite of simulated navigation and electronic warfare
  • High-fidelity environmental aural cues
Through Veraxx, ASTi previously upgraded audio systems in an AH-1 trainer at Camp Pendleton as well as in another UH-1 simulator located at MCAS New River, NC.
