A recent ASTi install provided capability for 78 operators, which was used along side pre-existing ASTi DACS equipment to support a total of 98 operators from the site. The ASTi team was able to demonstrate seamless interoperability between three generations of ASTi equipment, the latest Telestra 4 product suite, the low-cost single-seat PC'ver for Windows® software radio, and the legacy DACS platforms. The sites were linked via high-speed networks to other sites across the world, the majority of which have existing ASTi communication systems.

In addition to providing such large-scale systems, the Telestra 4 ACE system architecture provides a network-wide coordinated communications exercise planner. One of the biggest hurdles to executing large-scale distributed networked exercises is the ability for centralized management of the communications plan being used by all participants. The Exercise Planner provides the capability for a single management node to generate and distribute, using a novel peer-to-peer file sharing mechanism, a full exercise-wide communications plan including radio modes, preset lists, and net names.
