Security? Diskless? T4 Has IA Covered
Information assurance is a major requirement in simulation industry, and navigating much less meeting the varying requirements from application to application is significant. To help our customers with IA certification, ASTi has addressed the security landscape in a number of ways.
For example, Telestra 4 platforms, Target and Studio, are built using Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® version 5.x. This is a National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) validated operating system that earned the Common Criteria certification at EAL4+, the first mainstream OS to meet this assurance level.

Additional Security Features

  • Elimination and/or minimization of non-essential kernel, OS and other functions, that increase security risk
  • User authentication, strong password protection, and access restriction to limit local and remote system access
  • Security Enhanced LinuxTM (SELinux) feature support
  • System activity and change tracking
  • Network port restriction, filtering, and elimination
  • BIOS restriction and protection
  • Software releases tested against DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and Security Readiness Review (SRR) scripts.
ASTi also offers security packages, providing further system hardening in response to DISA STIGs and SRR test results. A report is also provided annotating CAT I-IV test results which is useful as part of customer SAA packages.

Diskless

Multi-level security requirements are a challenge for disk-based simulation and training systems. Managing the security of removable media in a large exercise is a daunting and time consuming task.
ASTi has created a version of T4 that supports diskless operation. With ASTi tools, users can create boot images that are burned onto DVD's or uploaded to the customers network boot server.
