SERA Bound for Liberty University's School of Aeronautics

April 4, 2016

Advanced Simulation Technology inc. (ASTi) is pleased to announce that its Simulated Environment for Realistic ATC (SERA) capability will be included on two Frasca flight training devices (FTDs) to be delivered to the Liberty University School of Aeronautics in Lynchburg, Virginia. These Piper Seminole and Cessna 172 Level 5 FTDs are the first Frasca trainers to include ASTi's Simulated Air Traffic Control Environment (SATCE) service option, which provides students with a fully automated air traffic control and external traffic simulation.

SERA eliminates the need for the flight instructor or additional human staff to perform any off-trainer roles because it populates the simulated environment with intelligent, computer-generated entities, including:

  • Other aircraft with pilots who speak,
  • Ground, tower, clearance, and TRACON controllers, and
  • En-route center instruction complete with hand-offs between regions.
The result is a realistic visual and radio communications environment providing increased immersion and enhanced training from gate to gate.

SERA is now available in a number of service options from Software as a Service running in the cloud to the traditional set-up requiring hardware on the customer's local network. SERA can benefit any flight training effort from part task trainers (PTTs) through fully certified Level D full-flight simulators (FFSs). To learn more, contact ASTi at (703) 471-2104.

ASTi will exhibit at WATS 2016 in Orlando, Florida from April 18th through April 21st. Visit us at booth #600 for a live SERA demo. Frasca will also attend WATS in booth #508.
