ASTi Application Note 69: DOS Login Applications on the ASTi DACS
An increasing number of ASTi's customers are responding to new network security requirements, and are auditing their ASTi systems' security features. As such, ASTi has learned that many customers have installed 3rd party applications which introduce user name and password login functionality to their DOS-based DACS systems.
While DOS-based login applications are neither offered nor supported by ASTi, this application note will highlight a few programs which are available for download on the Internet, and which work properly with the DACS system when correctly configured.
Each site's security requirements are unique. Therefore, the duty of determining which application best suits their needs lies with the end user, who assumes full responsibility of obtaining and configuring a DOS-based login program for their DACS systems.
The following are examples of DOS-based login applications which have been successfully integrated with fielded DACS systems: These programs and more are available for download at this URL:

Additional Steps

Note: These configuration changes are NOT supported by ASTi.
  • In the BIOS settings, change the boot order to disable the floppy drive.
  • Set a password under Password Protection in the BIOS to secure your BIOS settings.
  • Edit the config.sys (or the autoexec.bat) file to move the DOS-based login application to the first line in the file.
  • Be sure to follow the application's detailed installation instructions for proper installation.
