What else do I need if I buy an ASTi radio system?

Well, this depends very much on your application. If you are interfacing the system into a full-up simulator then it could well be that you are already providing all the additional elements that you might need, but if you are setting up a standalone system then you may need a few additional peripherals to get up and running.
As a minimum you will need:
  • One 110-volt outlet (or 220/240-volt if abroad...)
  • A headset and cable to connect to an RIU
  • Some kind of operator interface
The first two items above are perhaps fairly obvious. But the requirement for an operator interface is one that is often overlooked. Consider the question "how do I select the radio I want to transmit on?". If you're 'stuck' at this point, maybe the ASTi Hand-Held Terminal unit is the solution - this provides an operator with basic communication controls (volume, PTT, asset tx/rx selection) all in a simple to operate unit that connects directly to the ASTi system.
