Hardware FAQs
Can simulated faceplates be provided as part of the radio simulation? And what functionality is available?
ASTi can provide any level of fidelity and functionality. We have supplied very high fidelity panel simulations and equally much lower fidelity representations of panels. It really depends on the training need!
We have developed an in-house set of solutions, and worked with other panel vendors to create an RS-422 link to our RIU so that there is direct, on- panel sensing of all switches and control of display outputs. We also have a USB-based panel interface module for use with our next generation Telestra product that has been fielded driving a real aircraft panel via RS- 422. This module represents the first of a line of ultra-compact USB-based I/O modules that will provide the frontline for interfacing into the Telestra hardware.
The RIU can also be mounted at the panel to digitize all voice signals so that there is a very clean wiring installation and the need for cabling back to a general purpose I/O is eliminated.
The SINCGARS radio is the army standard radio of choice and ASTi have an off-the-shelf fully functional simulated SINCGARS panel that, coupled with the ASTi SINCGARS state machine providing emulation of the logical operation of the panel, presents a high fidelity replica of the real equipment.
For more generic applications the ASTi Distributed Digital Interface (DDI) provides a general-purpose block of I/O including up to 32 Digital Inputs (DIs), 8 Digital Outputs (DOs) and 4 Analog Inputs (AIs). The ASTi Model Builder software toolkit provides pre-defined input control objects for the DDI I/O making it simplicity itself to hookup and integrate this I/O into the model. The DDI was specifically designed to help solve the requirement to of interfacing simulated panels into the communications model.
