Network FAQs

What is a network exercise administrator?

Under the DIS networking scheme there is a requirement to allocate unique identification numbers to the simulation elements. These ID numbers must be unique on any given network for any exercise taking place. These numbers include the site, and host numbers.
Additionally all networked sites must maintain unique IP addresses. There may be other network specific issues that must addressed.
It is common practice to assign the task of administering these issues to a single person in order to centralize the collation of data. This person will typically be well informed on all the relevant issues with bridge- routers, Ethernet protocols, connection of multiple computer systems to LAN and network equipment and the various DIS protocol issues and options. The most common title assigned to a person in this role is network exercise administrator.
