Radio FAQs
How do I simulate ranging effects with the radio?
Easy! Model Builder does all the hard-work for you!
Ranging calculations are automatically performed by Model Builder any time there are 2 radios that are set to a position in the simulated environment and match in terms of frequency. The World Position object to which the radio is attached defines the position of a radio. This applies to any combination of networked radios, radios in the same model and radios in 2 different models on the same DACS. The receiving radio object will report the computed range (in kilometers).
Setting the World Positions to 0, 0, 0 geocentric will disable ranging for any radio that this radio is in tune with. This is a 'special' position and is often used to obtain a 'God's eye' view of the communications environment, particularly for instructor stations and debrief recording.
Radio ranging is not used by the Monitor Radios or network intercoms.
