Radio FAQs

How do I know if the simulated radio is receiving?

Audio effects:
  • You hear audio from other simulated radios (!)
  • You hear background noise as squelch is broken (analog radios)
  • If the transmitting radio is far away you may hear breakup and static due to fading effects
  • If used, you hear Crypto Tones indicating a crypto match (or mismatch)
  • If used, you hear Tune Tones
  • If used, you hear jamming noises
Model Builder effects:
  • The radio state changes from On to On+Rx and a receiver pdu is sent out (if DIS is used)
  • The radio displays the ID string of the transmitting radio (local or networked radio)
  • The radio displays a signal-to-noise ratio based on its characteristics and those of the transmitting radio
  • The radio displays the range to the transmitter
  • The radio will indicate if it is receiving from a valid or jamming transmitter
  • If used, the radio will indicate if it is receiving from an encrypted transmitter
