How do I Control the Radios?

There are basic solutions to the problem of providing the operator with a set of controls for the parameters of his radio(s), such as frequency, volume and squelch control, Press to Talk, etc.
The simplest solution is to purchase an ASTi Radio Hand Held Terminal unit for each operator. This connects directly to the local operator's RIU using a serial cable. This provides all the basic controls required for a simple simulation and provides control for up to 16 radios.
Another option is to attach a simulated radio control panel that reproduces the control and read-out of the real radio. One option is to connect this directly the DACS system and an example of such a solution is the ASTi SINCGARS simulated radio panel. This provides a complete turnkey simulation of the SINCGARS radio.
If the panel functions as part of a fully operational cockpit trainer, the functions are probably already being sensed by the host simulator computer. In this case, the host can transmit this information directly to the DACS system via the host Ethernet interface, and use the Model Builder control objects within the software to control the radio objects modeled on the system.
