Record & Replay FAQs

What about the Synchronicity of Record Files?

When a record file is started, it tracks the data by a sequential number from the start of the recording process (in units of samples, so if the sample rate is 8kHz there will be 8000 samples taken every second).
When the host wishes to initiate a playback from a certain time into the recording, it must point to that index in the record file. In other words, the host sets up a simple elapsed time file structure convention to initiate playback. File playback can be initiated from any point in the file (random access). As far as synchronizing once playback has commenced, we have not found that it has been necessary since simulators all operate in a deterministic mode (fixed iteration rate).
