ASTi Simulated Radios Integrated into VBS2

Serious Radios for Serious Games

ASTi is now shipping a version of its Voisus® software-based communications client that integrates directly into Bohemia Interactive's Virtual Battlespace 2 (VBS2TM) three-dimensional, interactive training system. Via the Voisus Server product, VBS2 users can now enjoy the enhanced training benefits realized by ASTi's highly realistic radio simulation environment.
To provide ease-of-use and preclude users from having to switch applications to control radio features, ASTi merged its Voisus communication facilities with the VBS2 infrastructure. The Voisus client operates on the customer's computer, while CPU-intensive radio simulation processes are offloaded to a centralized Voisus Server. This thin-client architecture offers several critical benefits: conservation of CPU resources, maximum reliability, and simplified maintenance via centralized management.

Features

  • The Voisus client is tightly integrated with VBS2, and launches automatically at game startup.
  • Supports powerful ASTi radio features: single-channel/frequency-hop, AM/FM, and crypto tones.
  • Features ASTi intercoms for modeling intra-vehicle or squad comms, and instructor-player channels.
  • Players automatically acquire vehicle-based radios and intercoms by mounting in-game vehicles.
  • Operators can access multiple radios or intercoms, which is essential for vehicle-based training.
  • Radio propagation modeling is based on in-game positions of players and vehicles.
  • Intuitive Voisus client GUI minimizes operator learning curve.
  • In-game GUI provides on-screen comms receive-transmit status of radios.
  • The flexible audio interface supports USB headsets and PTTs.
  • Communications traffic and in-game audio are seamlessly mixed in operators' headsets.
  • Keyboard hot-keys for push-to-talk, receive/transmit and radio/net selection
  • Centralized, network-based configuration and management using ASTi and VBS2 tools
The integration of radio simulation and communication into VBS2 is developed and supported by ASTi, the predominant radio simulations provider to the military training market. ASTi products have a 20-year track record of proven interoperability with a huge deployed base of simulators.
