The ASTi DACS, the workhorse of so many network voice installations, and simulation installations worldwide has retired, and is now a support-only item. ASTi will continue to support the 3,000 DACS out in the field. All DACS functionality is now incorporated into the Telestra 4 product suite.

The Digital Audio Communications System (DACS) is an integrated solution for all the sound and radio communications requirements for the simulation and training market. The platform combines digital signal processor cards into an intelligent base platform to provide a very capable system that off-loads a substantial portion of the Host processing load. The architecture is fully scalable from simple workstation-based trainers, up to full weapons system trainers and wide-area networked DIS and HLA applications.

The DACS is fully user-configurable via the Model Builder interface. This provides a spreadsheet-like environment through which the user specifies and connects the various subsystem functions into a custom aural cue and DIS/HLA radio communications environment of virtually unlimited complexity. Modular expandability of the software and hardware architectures, and a comprehensive set of peripheral equipment, allow for fully customized turnkey solutions to the most complex applications. The large selection of proven software modules can also eliminate several man years of software development and documentation effort.

The DACS is also capable of being operated and configured via the Remote Management System (RMS). With RMS and a web browser, users may monitor and manage all of the DACS' resources. Backup and restoration of system files, viewing online error and status messages, and manipulating Model Builder through the Virtual Screen utility are just a few of the features available through RMS.
