ASTi Delivers Flexible Automated Communications for Military Flight Simulation

I/ITSEC 2014 | What's New

Similar to commercial pilots, military pilots must be in radio contact with the ground and other aircraft for mission critical communications including coordination and safety information. ASTi offers a set of leading-edge simulated air traffic control (ATC) communications functions that when added to flight simulators immerse and train pilots in realistic detail while reducing the flight instructor's often unwieldy responsibilities.

ASTi custom ATC solutions teach pilots valuable radio skills including listening for their own callsign, timing transmissions, using correct ATC phraseology, and situational awareness based on radio traffic from external entities. ASTi's AI-driven technology is incorporated not only in every ATC but in every airplane that the technology directs in an environment, giving each of these entities a will of its own. Demands on the instructor can be reduced through the automatic role-playing of ATCs and other aircraft. The solution also automatically generates realistic background traffic on radios and in a flight simulator's visual system. Although the solution is fully automated, it allows the flexibility for fine-tuning and instructor control. This includes tunable traffic and instructor-injected messages for runway incursions and other emergency situations.

ASTi's robust speech technology means the solution accommodates a variety of trainee accents. In addition, the solution provides after-action-review features to assist with trainee communications performance assessment: e.g., recorded, transcribed, and annotated voice transmissions. Network APIs facilitate integration with Instructor Operator Stations (IOSs), visuals, and other simulator systems, making ASTI's ATC communications solution one of the most adaptable on the market today.
