I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Bigger

Bigger isn’t always better, and that’s never been more true of complex simulator configurations that consume racks of bulky servers and spares. Program managers are always looking for innovative ways to cut size, weight, and power (SWaP) without sacrificing performance.

ASTi products are fast, flexible, and high fidelity, and they don’t require a dedicated server. Our solutions can adapt to almost any setup, whether you need to install ASTi software on your own equipment or run it on a virtual machine (VM). These flexible configuration options eliminate the need for an extra spare, freeing up rack space for other assets. The end result is a simpler setup that wastes less power and overhead, all with a smaller hardware footprint.

This year, ASTi expanded virtualization to all of our major software products, including Telestra. Now you can experience Telestra’s robust model development and aural cue capabilities in a single, virtualized instance: no custom ASTi hardware and no server dedicated to audio. It’s the same high-fidelity Telestra that you know and love—low-latency, ultrafast, real-time audio—just in a more compact package.

ASTi’s VM capabilities streamline deployment and hardware provisioning. Telestra and Voisus VM run on standard enterprise-class, type-1 hypervisors, such as VMware ESXi. We also developed a custom validation tool that verifies your configuration, simplifying testing and deployment. Even better, updating software no longer requires a cold start for each server plus numerous extra configuration steps. It’s as simple as taking a snapshot of one updated system and deploying it to dozens of other trainers. Apply updates in mere moments rather than shutting down trainers, losing valuable training time.

Civil and military sites all over the world have leveraged ASTi’s flexible deployment options. Examples include major programs like AVCATT, the Non-Rated Crew Member Manned Module (NCM3), and T-7A Red Hawk, who all rehosted Telestra or Voisus software on their own hardware.
